The tale of an (almost) accidental podcaster
The tale of an (almost) accidental podcaster
Do research for a nonprofit. Have amazing conversations. Desire to share those conversations with others. Start watching YouTube videos on podcasting. Purchase a mic. Hate the mic. Really, really hate the mic. Record first interview and pretend you know what you're doing. Write a script for the first episode. Tell people about your launch day. Panic for a month before the launch date. Survive your launch date. Survive eight episodes. Badger potential guests until they agree to be on the podcast. Get a new mic and sell your old one. Experiment with sound. Pretend no one is listening. Keep pretending no one is listening. Suddenly unable to pretend no one is listening. Start panicking because people are listening. People reach out and request to be a guest on the podcast. People reach out for advice on how to start a podcast. You wonder if you actually know how to start a podcast. Keep recording episodes. Experiment with different styles. Receive angry emails. Receive encouraging emails. Experience burnout. Recover from burnout. Experience burnout again. Ask yourself if you want to keep podcasting. Wonder every day if you want to keep podcasting. Make plans to start another podcast. Realize, whether you like it or not, you're a podcaster and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere for a long, long time...
Two years with the Uncertain Podcast Thank you to everyone who has listened, shared, and taken time to say hi. We wouldn't be here without you.
