Contraception Begins at Erection
Have you heard about this Mississippi contraception begins at erection bill? I first heard about it when a friend sent me an Instagram post. I then did an internet deep dive wondering, “Is this real?”
The fact I immediately doubted the veracity shows the deeply ingrained systems of oppression most of us have just gotten used to. While they predict this bill will likely be rejected, the bill itself is making a point: when it comes to contraception and abortion, why are we always legislating women and not men?
As they say, it takes two to tango.
My theory (which is probably more than a theory at this point) is conservative cultures fueled by fundamentalist Christian propaganda (good ol’ Merica) hate women and seek to control their bodies, their sexuality, and their life choices.
Don’t believe me? Then why is this bill causing such a national hullabaloo? Why isn’t this approach to the contraception and abortion question normalized?
Because it isn’t about saving babies. It’s about controlling women.
