Spiritual Abuse Book Title Reveal
Without further ado, the title is…
A Thousand Tiny Paper Cuts:
The Subtle, Insidious Nature of Spiritual Abuse and Life on the Other Side
I love it. The main title comes from a real conversation I had with a survivor. They described Spiritual Abuse like “A thousand tiny paper cuts until eventually you bleed to death.” This remains one of the most startling and accurate descriptions of Spiritual Abuse I have ever heard.
This book is a personal, professional, and pragmatic approach to understanding the experience of Spiritual Abuse as well as what it’s like to live in a traumatized body after you leave high-control religious spaces. Coming to book stores October 14th this year!
Katherine Spearing MA, CTRC is the founder of Tears of Eden, a nonprofit supporting survivors of spiritual abuse and is a Certified Trauma Recovery Practitioner working primarily with clients who have survived cults, high-control environments, spiritual abuse, and sexual abuse. She also provides specialized trauma informed career coaching, as folks with trauma often need extra support for interviewing and networking.
Katherine is the author of a historical romantic comedy, Hartfords, a novel that challenges gender roles in a patriarchal society that will appeal to fans of Jane Austen. Her next book on Spiritual Abuse addresses the survivor’s recovery journey, coming October 14th, 2025.
